CNC Teknik2010  / It is a long term project but was mainly performed during three years, 2000-2003.

Why the project initiated / What was trigged the start of the project?
By the end of the 20th century the internationalisation of the industrial life and society reached its peak. The question of competence got more and more important and the staffs were considered more and more as the most important resource for the companies. At the same time one could see that the traditional forms of education were not enough. Learning at the places of work and new methods to integrate the learning were developed. The increasing learning also meant that the demand to describe the tacit knowledge which was the base for many skilled workers increased.
The demand, motives and interest for a validation and certification system was there but the ones existing were far from user friendly nor were the financial resources enough to be used within the industry. A system where the validation was not too time consuming, the lack of competence shown and the possibility for a receipt of the worker’s knowledge – a certificate was asked for.
It was here the process started to develop the SKTC model which today is CNC Teknik2010.

What was the intention of the project / What did it want to achieve and for whom (target group/groups)?
To ensure the metal cutting competence within the Swedish Industry:
• Solving the supply of skills for the metal cutting industry
• Solving lack of skills 
• Possibility to evaluate the knowledge of the workers including tacit knowledge
• Making informal knowledge/competence formal
• Increase the possibilities to adapt to new skills

What are the achievements / results so far?
A validation and certification system CNC Teknik 2010 nationally used and launched with its three levels green, blue and black and offers validation and certification for the CNC technicians within the skilled metal cutting workforce combined with possibilities to increase the competence when needed.
There are appr. 75 validation centres employing skilled validation leaders from the north of Sweden to the south. More than 100 companies have increased their abilities to plan and make strategic competence planning. 
The number of validations and certifications is constantly increasing and today the speed is about 1200 validations per year which leads to more than 600 certifications per year. Both companies and the work force can see the importance of using the system. The companies get a skilled workforce and the workers get their certification making them more competent and more employable.

What are the main learning points of the project?
The success of the project was overall due to the fact that the target group continually took part in the project and was making its demands in order to achieve the results they needed to be able to get the right level of skills. To structure the project in this way we reached a result which was fully accepted within the whole industry regarding legitimacy and credibility.

What experience could be transferable? How could the project experience inspire other organizations / countries?
The structure and performance of the project as well as the outcomes can easily be transferred to and inspire other organizations and countries.
