Description of teachers' competence

in initial and functional literacy for adults with non-Nordic mother tongues


What must a professional teacher in basic literacy be able to do?

The Nordic Alpha Council can now present a description of the competence that we believe is necessary for a professional teacher. The process has been extensive, there have been professional discussions between the members of the Alpha Council, we have obtained advice from external researchers, and last but not least, teachers who have participated in the Nordic Literacy Conference 2012 have provided valuable input. These recordings have been processed and incorporated into the text. The academic responsible for the design of the text has been: Qarin Franker, FD university lecturer in Swedish as a second language in Gothenburg together with Lilly Christensen, teacher in Danish as a second language, Adult Education Center Frederiksberg.
