Basic Literacy Education for Adult Second Language Learners in the Nordic Region

The material “Basic Literacy Education for Adult Second Language Learners in the Nordic Region” gives an overview of basic literacy education for adult second language learners in the Nordic region.

Based on the material, NVL’s Language Council sees certain needs in the field that are common to the Nordic countries:

– A need for more research (both qualitative and quantitative) on adult second language learners developing basic literacy in a Nordic context.

– A need for more opportunities for professional development for teachers who teach basic literacy. This education is needed because there are no specific competence requirements for teachers educating adult second language learners in basic literacy. In one of the Council of the Nordic Adult Education texts, a competence description for teachers provides examples of what such education needs to include.

If have any questions about the material, you are welcome to contact NVL’s Language Council.
