Validation inthe Nordic countries - Policy and Practice

Validation of knowledge and competence is a phenomenon that has attracted more and more attention concerning both policy and practical efforts in order to promote adult and lifelong learning, not least in the Nordic countries – Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden.

This Report is about validation, in some of concept’s meanings, in these five countries. As the Report is originally written in Swedish the term validation is mainly used, even if other words also are used in the different countries. The purpose of the study is to describe and compare the policies for validation of the different countries, and how these policies have been expressed in practical measures and activities.

The focus is on validation in three different sectors: The Adult Education Sector, the Labour Market Sector, and the Third Sector (e.g. folk high schools, study associations and volunteer organisations).
